Xavier Delucq a la trentaine. Il est à la fois sculpteur (il réalise des œuvres contemporaines ainsi que des installations), musicien (auteur, compositeur, interprète), dessinateur de presse et de BD, et photographe amateur…
Il possède son propre site www.delucq.com (très complet sur son travail).
Et il a travaillé, presque par hasard, en tant que "décorateur" pour Gaspar Noé sur Seul contre tous…
Comme Noé, il ne pratique pas la langue de bois : il dit ce qu’il pense, sans se cacher derrière des éloges factices et éphémères. Et, sans être aussi cru qu’un Costes, il est néanmoins aussi direct.

Comment vous a-t-on contacté pour travailler sur Seul contre tous ?
Je venais de photocopier des dessins à moi dans un magasin à Montparnasse et un assistant de Noé m'a abordé dans la rue pour me demander si je pouvais faire un petit travail pour eux...
Que vous a-t-on dit et pourquoi vous avoir choisi ?
Je pense que pour eux, tout était de l'improvisation... Ils sont tombés au hasard sur moi et ça leur faisait un peintre pour pas cher !!! Je suppose...
Quel a été votre travail précis sur le film et que conservez-vous de cette expérience ?
J'ai donc rencontré Gaspar Noé chez lui où il m'a montré des extraits de ses courts métrages et les rushs de son prochain film, Seul contre tous. Il m'a expliqué l'ambiance et le contexte du film. J'étais face à un petit bonhomme timide, pas sûr de lui, confus dans ses explications, lent... Presque une caricature d'artiste.
On m'a donc demandé de faire des panneaux pour mettre sur la devanture des abattoirs dans le film... Il voulait un aspect vieux, rouillé, avec de la matière... J'ai donc réalisé des essais qui ont été approuvés et j'ai donc réalisé un grand panneau représentant une France sur fond rouge... Avec des écritures : "Abattoirs de France", je crois... Ils sont venus chez moi voir le résultat (Noé et son assistant). Ils semblaient très peu satisfait... Pourtant c'était exactement ce que j'avais montré dans mes essais! Mais je pense qu'ils ne savaient pas trop ce qu'ils voulaient...
Avez-vous été en contact avec Gaspar Noé et si oui, de quelle manière ?
Oui, donc deux-trois fois...
Et puis il m'a invité au tournage de son film... J'y suis allé... Mais là encore (désolé je casse le mythe), je n'ai vu que des gens qui ne savaient pas très bien ce qu'ils voulaient faire... J'ai passé une après-midi à attendre sur le lieu de tournage sans jamais voir une prise réalisée !!!
Avez-vous vu ses films et qu'en pensez-vous ?
Le film Seul contre tous est sorti bien longtemps après mon travail, d'ailleurs je n'y pensais plus, je pensais que vu le dynamisme de travail, le film avait capoté... Je n’ai jamais eu de nouvelles, on ne m'a pas contacté pour la sortie du film. Je ne suis pas au générique. J'ai payé ma place... bref : j'ai été un peu déçu...
Mais j'ai beaucoup aimé le film... Il dégage une ambiance, il possède la touche du réalisateur (trop rare, maintenant... tous les films se ressemblent).
Même si j'ai passé le film à chercher mon panneau (qui apparaît quand même) j'ai beaucoup apprécié ce côté décalé, agressifs, non conventionnel.

Like Noé, he does not practice the language of wood: he says what he thinks, without hiding behind false and ephemeral praise. And, without being as raw as a Costes, he is nonetheless as direct.

How were you contacted to work on I Stand Alone?
I had just photocopied drawings of my own in a store in Montparnasse and an assistant to Noé approached me in the street to ask me if I could do a little job for them ...
What were you told and why did you choose you?
I think for them, everything was improvisation ... They stumbled upon me at random and it made them a cheap painter !!! I suppose...
What was your specific work on the film and what do you keep from this experience?
So I met Gaspar Noé at his home where he showed me excerpts from his short films and rushes from his next film, Seul contre tous. He explained to me the atmosphere and the context of the film. I was facing a shy little man, not sure of himself, confused in his explanations, slow ... Almost an artist's caricature.
So I was asked to make signs to put on the storefront of the slaughterhouses in the film ... He wanted an old, rusty look, with material ... So I carried out tests which were approved and So I made a large sign representing France on a red background ... With writings: "Abattoirs de France", I believe ... They came to see me to see the result (Noé and his assistant). They seemed very dissatisfied ... Yet that was exactly what I had shown in my tests! But I think they weren't sure what they wanted...
Have you been in contact with Gaspar Noé and if so, how?
Yes, so two or three times ...
And then he invited me to the shooting of his film ... I went there ... But then again (sorry I'm breaking the myth), I only saw people who didn't quite know what was happening. 'they wanted to do ... I spent an afternoon waiting at the shooting location without ever seeing a take made !!!
Have you seen his films and what do you think?
The film I Stand Alone came out a long time after my work, moreover I no longer thought about it, I thought that given the dynamism of the work, the film had flipped ... did not contact me for the release of the film. I'm not in the credits. I paid my place ... in short: I was a little disappointed ...
But I really liked the film ... It gives off an atmosphere, it has the director's touch (too rare, now ... all films are alike).
Even though I spent the film looking for my sign (which appears anyway) I really appreciated this quirky, aggressive, unconventional side.
